CUCUMIS SATIVUS (COLD PRESSED CUCUMBER SEED) OIL
Cucumis sativus belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae along with melon and pumpkins. It is a widely known vegetable around the world often eaten raw.
In traditional Indian medicine (such as Ayurveda), it is used for cooling burning sensation, as a moisturizer and to de-puff swollen eyes. The cucumber seeds, particularly, are used in the treatment of insomnia and headache.
While the cucumber vegetable contains mainly water, up to 90%, studies show the seeds are rich in protein (33.8%) and fat (45.2%). The seeds also contain minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium and iron. Linoleic acid and oleic acid are the predominant fatty acids at 61.6% and 15.7% concentrations respectively.
The cucumber oil we use at Askalite is cold-pressed from non-GMO cucumber seeds.
